Tuition assistance suspended during government shutdown

Tuition assistance for classes starting on or after Oct. 1 is suspended until further notice. Effective Oct. 1, all Soldier accounts in GoArmyEd were placed on hold. Fiscal Year 2014 TA requests for classes starting on or after Oct. 1 2013 that were requested in GoArmyEd prior to Oct. 1 – whether approved or pending - cannot be honored and were rejected. When a budget or CR is approved by Congress and signed by the President, the holds will be removed and Soldiers will once again be able to request TA through GoArmyEd.

Soldiers should be aware of the potential debt they may incur with their school should they attend classes that are rejected as a result of this budgetary crisis and are encouraged to monitor GoArmyEd for updates. Soldiers can use GI Bill benefits, if applicable -- either the Montgomery GI Bill or the Post 9/11 GI Bill, or use another funding source, some may qualify for Pell grants or other federal financial aid.

Denied TA requests for classes with start dates during the budget impasse period will not be reinstated or reimbursed. Soldiers should be aware there is NO “after-the-fact” TA and any tuition costs incurred during this period will be their own responsibility.

Soldiers can call the Fort Gordon Education Center at 791-2000 or visit www.goarmyed.com for more information or assistance finding alternative financial aid for school.
