October is National Dental Hygiene Month
October is dedicated to dental hygiene awareness with this year marking the centennial for registered dental hygienists. For 100 years dental hygienists have actively promoted oral health and prevention of oral disease. Our dental hygiene team of registered dental hygienists, dental therapy assistants, expanded function dental assistants and preventive dentistry specialists strengthen the nation by improving the oral health of the Armed Forces.
These dedicated dental professionals provide responsive and reliable dental hygiene services for America’s finest military service members. Our hygiene team does more than just ‘clean teeth’. Most importantly, they teach service members how to ‘maintain’ their mouth. The hygiene team empowers the military with the individual dental tactics, techniques, and procedures to maintain a lifetime of good oral health which is essential to optimal general health and wellness.
The majority of dental disease is a lifestyle disease. Dental hygiene teams demonstrate that good oral health is in your hands through proper toothbrushing twice daily and flossing once daily before bedtime. The dental hygiene teams provide commanders with readiness support.
They lead the way to mission accomplishment in the Go First Class Campaign. Join the Fort Gordon Dental Activity in celebrating National Dental Hygiene Month and recognizing dental hygiene teams for the mission essential services they provide.
