Job fair scheduled at Fort Gordon Army Reserve Center

Army Career and Alumni Program, Army Community Services, and Department of Labor have a scheduled job fair 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Fort Gordon Army Reserve Center located at 15th Street and Lane Avenue.

More than 50 companies are participating, looking to hire for both part-time and full-time positions in all career fields.

“This is an annual event, and we normally have 55 to 60 employers attend, all looking to hire qualified individuals,” said Melissa Smith, Fort Gordon’s employment readiness program manager.

According to Smith, the job fair links spouses, retirees, and separating service members with local and national companies in need of employees.

“There is a demand for people,” she said. “We have about 160 military spouse employer partners who want to hire qualified individuals. This event is a great way for them to tap into a large pool of talent.”

Additionally, Smith says the job fair provides fantastic networking opportunities, and that jobseekers have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with hiring authorities.

“The majority of companies setting up at the job fair actually send the people doing the hiring, not just general representatives,” she said. “That way, when you attend the event, you talk to someone who has a say in who gets hired.”

Smith said that numerous employers reach out to her office seeking applicants on a regular basis, so this event is as much a benefit to them as it is to those seeking employment.

“These events are always so successful,” she said. “We hope we can get as many people employed as possible during the event. That’s what we do here and the job fair is a great way to get it done.”
